Calgary Flames continuing to show trade interest in Bowen Byram

πŸ’ Are the Calgary Flames Eyeing a Blockbuster Blue Line Boost? πŸ”₯

The Calgary Flames are still in “go big or go home” mode—but they’re playing it smart.

Earlier this week, they reportedly kicked the tires on K’Andre Miller before he got scooped up by Carolina. Now, it looks like their focus has shifted to another talented left-shot defenceman: Bowen Byram.

Yep, the former fourth overall pick (2019) is suddenly the hot name on the trade market, with Calgary firmly in the mix.

🎯 Why Byram?

Simple: raw talent.
Byram’s got all the tools—he’s fast, strong, smart with the puck, and can hold his own at both ends of the ice. He just wrapped up a career-best 38-point season and has the potential to be a legit top-pairing D-man.

At 6’1” and 205 lbs, he brings the kind of presence Calgary’s blue line could really use, especially on the left side, where the Flames are clearly lacking.

πŸ’° But Here’s the Catch...

He won’t come cheap.

Byram is currently an RFA and wants to get paid—and we’re talking serious money.

  • πŸ” Elliotte Friedman suggests an offer sheet could hit $10 million AAV

  • πŸ“ David Pagnotta reports Byram is seeking at least $9 million annually on a long-term deal

For a guy with undeniable upside but a still-developing game and a history of head injuries… that’s a gamble. A big one.

πŸ”₯ So, Will the Flames Pull the Trigger?

While GM Craig Conroy has shown interest, he’s not about to throw caution (and cap space) to the wind. Unless Byram’s price tag drops or the Sabres sweeten the deal, don’t be shocked if Calgary steps back and lets another team roll the dice.

Bottom line?
The Flames want to improve—but they’re not going to blow the budget to do it.

πŸ‘€ Stay tuned, because this offseason still has plenty of moves left in the tank.
