Calgary International Airport lands low for passenger satisfaction

by Peter Eki

J.D. Power has released its 2025 North American Airport Passenger Satisfaction Study, and Calgary International Airport didn’t score well compared to other large airports.

While overall passenger satisfaction across North America has improved — thanks to better food, beverage, retail options, and smoother travel experiences — Calgary ranked 25th out of 28 large airports, with a score of 610 out of 1,000. That makes it the fourth-lowest in its category.

Calgary’s Performance

  • Score improved slightly from 599 in 2024 to 610 in 2025.

  • Despite the higher score, Calgary slipped three spots in the rankings (from 22nd to 25th).

  • Among Canadian airports in the large-airport category, Calgary landed in the middle:

    • Vancouver International Airport ranked 8th (671 points).

    • Montreal-Trudeau Airport ranked 27th (571 points).

Top Performers

For the second year in a row, John Wayne Airport (Orange County, CA) took the top spot with a score of 730. Rounding out the top three:

  • Tampa International Airport – 709 points

  • Dallas Love Field – 705 points

What the Study Measures

Now in its 20th year, the J.D. Power study evaluates airports based on seven factors:

  • Ease of travel

  • Trust in the airport

  • Terminal facilities

  • Airport staff

  • Departure and arrival experience

  • Food, beverage, and retail services

  • Overall experience

Why Satisfaction Is Improving

Michael Taylor, J.D. Power’s managing director of travel, hospitality, and retail, said improvements are being driven by completed capital projects and more local flavour in airport offerings.

“A decades-long trend of bringing unique, local flavour to the passenger experience has positively impacted the airport experience with these local touches having a major influence on passenger satisfaction,” Taylor said.
