Ryan Leslie leaves Calgary Flames broadcasts on Sportsnet for Toronto Maple Leafs job

Ryan Leslie Bids Farewell to Flames, Joins Maple Leafs as New Host
Ryan Leslie’s run as the Calgary Flames’ game-day host has officially come to an end.
The longtime Sportsnet personality sparked some buzz earlier today after posting a cryptic tweet that had fans speculating about a possible Flames trade. But the mystery didn’t last long—shortly after, the Toronto Maple Leafs announced Leslie as their new team host for the 2025-26 season.
Leslie is no stranger to hockey fans across the country. Over the past decade, he’s become a familiar face on Sportsnet and Hockey Night in Canada, known for his deep knowledge of the game, warm rapport with players and coaches, and knack for storytelling.
“Ryan’s knowledge of the game, his ability to connect with players and coaches, and his talent for telling the stories that matter make him an incredible addition to our Maple Leafs content team,” said MLSE chief marketing officer Shannon Hosford. “Our fans will benefit from his experience and passion for bringing them closer to the action.”
The Leafs confirmed that Leslie will handle pre- and post-game coverage, player and coach interviews, plus exclusive behind-the-scenes features throughout the season.
This shift marks another big change in the Flames’ media scene. Last year, long-time play-by-play voice Rick Ball left for Chicago, with Jon Abbott later stepping in as his replacement. Now, the Flames must also search for a new host to fill Leslie’s role moving forward.
Beloved by fans for both his heartfelt interviews and his quick wit, Leslie leaves big shoes to fill in Calgary—but he’s now set to bring that same charm and insight to Toronto’s hockey faithful.
