Calgary Named Best Place to Live in Canada for 2025

Global Citizen Solutions has unveiled its 2025 list of the best places to live in Canada, and Calgary proudly takes the number one spot.

The city’s winning mix of affordability, quality of life, and career opportunities secured it the top ranking. This comes on the heels of Calgary being named the fifth most liveable city in the world in 2024 and the sixth best place to live and work in 2025 — proving its global appeal is only growing stronger.

So, what gives Calgary the edge? For starters, living costs are relatively moderate, with average monthly expenses for one person (excluding rent) at about $1,581. Alberta’s famously low taxes also stretch incomes further, giving residents more disposable cash to enjoy city life.

Quality of life is another major factor. Calgary scored an impressive 176.3 on the quality of life index, thanks to its low crime rates, excellent healthcare, and one of Canada’s largest education systems. Pair that with a strong job market and work-life balance, and it’s no wonder the city shines.

Culturally, Calgary thrives year-round with music and arts festivals, a buzzing nightlife, and a vibrant food scene. Its neighbourhoods continue to grow and diversify, offering a community feel with cafés, restaurants, and local shops that make each area feel distinct.

For nature lovers, Calgary is unbeatable. The city is filled with parks, trails, and green spaces, while the majestic Rocky Mountains are just a short drive away, offering endless opportunities for skiing, hiking, and adventure.

Altogether, Calgary blends opportunity, affordability, and lifestyle in a way that appeals to both newcomers and longtime residents. With so much going for it, it’s easy to see why Calgary is topping the charts as Canada’s best city to live in for 2025.
