Iconic Calgary diner closes one of its locations after less than five years

Denny’s – 17th Avenue
It’s a bittersweet moment for Calgary’s breakfast lovers — the Denny’s on 17th Avenue has officially shut its doors.
Although Google Maps still listed the diner as “temporarily closed,” Denny’s has now confirmed that the location permanently closed back in August after just over four years of serving up stacks of pancakes, sizzling slams, and hearty burgers. No official reason was given for the closure.
The good news? Denny’s fans don’t have to go without their all-day breakfast fix. The chain still has plenty of Calgary spots to choose from, including Motel Village, Crossroads, McKnight, Macleod Trail, Deerfoot Meadows, Peigan, Bowridge Drive, Barlow Trail, and Crowfoot.
While the chapter on 17th Avenue has come to a close, the big question remains: what will take over that prime spot next?
