๐Ÿ“ฆ Canada Post Hit with Class-Action Lawsuit Over “Drip Pricing” Allegations ๐Ÿ’ธ

Looks like Canada Post might be delivering more than just mail — now they’re getting served in court too.

A class-action lawsuit has just been certified by the Federal Court, claiming that Canada Post added surprise fees to its online shipping services — without making them crystal clear upfront. This kind of practice is known as "drip pricing" — when the price you think you're paying suddenly gets a little fuelled-up at checkout. ๐Ÿ’ฅ

๐Ÿงพ What’s the issue?

The lawsuit, led by B.C. business owner Marci Deane, alleges that:

  • Online tools like Snap Ship, Shipping Manager, and Ship Online added fuel surcharges after customers selected their shipping.

  • These fees allegedly weren’t visible until later in the process — a potential violation of Canada’s Competition Act.

โš–๏ธ Canada Post says…

“Not so fast.” Canada Post argues:

  • The full pricing (including fuel surcharges) is clearly shown before checkout.

  • Business users, like Deane, agreed to terms that mention these extra fees.

๐Ÿง‘‍โš–๏ธ Who can join the lawsuit?

If you:

  • Live in Canada ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

  • Used Snap Ship, Ship Online, or Shipping Manager since June 23, 2022

  • And were charged a fuel surcharge…

...you might be eligible to join the lawsuit and seek damages.

This isn’t the first time this kind of pricing drama has popped up — DoorDash was recently sued for similar tactics.

Stay tuned — this case could shake up how companies show prices online. Or at the very least, make fuel surcharges less sneaky. ๐Ÿ˜
