Stephen Avenue is getting a makeover with construction starting next week

🚧 Heads Up, Downtown Calgary — Stephen Avenue Is Getting a Glow-Up!

If you live, work, or play downtown, expect a bit more buzz (literally). Starting Monday, July 21, construction kicks off on the Stephen Avenue Revitalization Project, with the 100 SE block (between 1 St SE and Centre St) first in line.

Originally planned for July 14, the project was pushed a week to give local patios more time to shine during peak summer. Patios will mostly stay open until September 1, and the major work will wrap by June 2026 — just in time for next year’s Stampede!

👷‍♂️ The upgrades include:

  • Replacing old water, stormwater, and electrical systems

  • A refreshed streetscape for more vibrant, accessible public space

  • New life for year-round festivals, dining, and events

Fall will bring upgrades to Centre Street, and yes — they’re pausing construction during July and August 2026 to give businesses a break.

💡 Bonus: This facelift aligns with the Glenbow Museum’s reopening, the Arts Commons Transformation, and Olympic Plaza’s revamp — turning downtown into a cultural powerhouse.
