Winter wonderland in parts of Alberta as snow falls in July

by Peter Eki

❄️ It’s July in Alberta… So Naturally, It’s Snowing. 🙃

Because Alberta’s weather is that friend who shows up to your BBQ in a parka — we’re now seeing snow in the middle of July. Yes, seriously.

🌨️ A webcam at Banff Sunshine Village captured a live winter wonderland scene on Thursday, July 10th, showing the top of Goat’s Eye looking more like December than deep summer. Clouds were low, the ground was white, and social media did a collective double-take.

The flurries didn’t last long — by the afternoon, most of the snow had melted, with just a patch clinging on for dear life in the shade.

And if that wasn’t enough drama for Alberta’s skies, just a day before, we had hailstorms and tornado warnings. Classic.

“If you don’t like the weather in Alberta, just wait five minutes.”
– Everyone who’s ever lived here.

This isn’t our first summer snow rodeo, either. Some parts of the province saw 30 cm of snow back in early June, and who could forget last year’s "Christmas in June" with flurries in Banff, Bragg Creek, and Canmore?

So… maybe don’t pack away that snow brush just yet.

☀️❄️🌪️ Welcome to Alberta — where you can ski, sunbathe, and shelter from a storm all in the same week.
