🗓️ Heritage Day Long Weekend in Calgary: What’s Open & What’s Not

The August long weekend is almost here, and while Heritage Day isn’t a statutory holiday in Alberta, some services and businesses in Calgary will see adjusted hours.

City Services: Most Calgary services remain open. On-street parking is free on Monday, August 4, and Calgary Parking lots will run on weekend rates. Transit will operate as usual, though the City’s Contact Centre and Impound Lot will be closed. Landfills are open all weekend except Spyhill and Shepard, which are closed Sunday.

Leisure Centres & Libraries: Southland, Village Square, Shouldice, and Killarney leisure centres will be closed Monday. Calgary Public Library branches follow regular weekend hours but will close on Monday as well.

Shopping & Entertainment: Major malls like Chinook, Market Mall, Southcentre, and The CORE will be open with holiday hours. Movie theatres including Cineplex and Landmark will also be open.

Stores: Most grocery and liquor stores will be open but may run on reduced hours — it’s best to double-check with your local spot.

Attractions: Popular destinations like Heritage Park, Calgary Zoo, Calaway Park, Telus Spark, and the Hangar Flight Museum will all be open as usual — perfect for family fun or a laid-back day out.

📍Plan ahead and enjoy the long weekend!
